Description and Basic Information ::
|
The Declaration House is known for its display of the original Declaration of Independence. It is strongly recommended that you pay the house a visit on your tour of the area.
As stated earlier, Declaration House hosts the actual Declaration of Independence. This is of specific interest because in addition to getting to view one of the documents that changed the course of American history, there is also a display showcasing changes that Thomas Jefferson made to the original in order for it to best suit the young nation’s needs. Reconstructed in 1976, the house features an educational video as well as a full exhibition, both showcasing Jefferson’s life. Also, two rooms in which he resided in one summer are completely furnished in period décor for an authentic look into Jefferson's daily life.
As with all attractions in and around Independence Square, Declaration House is a must-see when taking your walking tour of the historic area. The chance to see the Declaration of Independence should be enough to lure you in, and the restored setting and adept guides add to the experience. |
